Accra: The National Communications Authority (NCA) has cleared three telecommunication companies to proceed to the next stage of Ghana's 5G spectrum licencing process.
According to Ghana News Agency, the three companies qualified after the NCA completed the qualification stage of the Request for Applications for spectrum licences in the 700 MHz, 2.3 GHz, and 3 GHz bands. The companies are Scancom Plc (MTN Ghana), Ghana Telecommunications Company Limited (Telecel Ghana), and Goal Telecommunications Ltd.
The Authority disclosed the outcome in a statement issued in Accra following an assessment of four applications received by the deadline of 1700 hours on August 27, 2026. Infrava Ltd was the only applicant that failed to qualify and will not proceed to the next stage of the selection process.
The NCA stated that the assessment involved an Eligibility Review and a Technical Qualification Assessment conducted under Envelope A, which contained the technical and qualification submissions. "In accordance with Section 3.3.2(4) of the Request for Applications, the Authority hereby publishes the list of Qualified and Non-qualified Applicants," the NCA said.
The qualification outcome means that the three successful applicants will proceed to Stage Three of the selection process, which will involve the opening and ranking of their Best Price Offers. The NCA mentioned that the qualified applicants would be notified separately about the "date, time and venue" for the opening and ranking of their Best Price Offers.
The Authority also confirmed that all four applicants had been informed of the decisions concerning their applications, with reasons provided where applicable. The NCA is expected to complete the 5G spectrum assignment before the end of 2026 and begin its deployment. This is to deliver faster data speeds, ultra-low latency, and massive device connectivity to transform both consumer experiences and industrial automation.
