Abuakwa north: The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Abuakwa North, Charles Darko Yeboah, known locally as "Ozey," has announced plans to take legal action against residents who failed to participate in the National Sanitation Day exercise. The MCE's focus is primarily on market women and shop owners at the Akyem New Tafo market, who he claims ignored repeated announcements and failed to attend the clean-up effort.
According to Ghana Web, Charles Darko Yeboah expressed his frustration over the deliberate non-participation of traders in the sanitation exercise, which was aimed at enhancing the health and safety of the community. The MCE noted that despite clear communication and warnings, the exercise saw a low turnout, particularly from those who stood to benefit most from a cleaner environment.
In response to the lack of participation, Yeboah confirmed that his office is preparing court summonses for the traders and residents who disregarded the directive. The legal action is intended to serve as a deterrent against future neglect of civic duties related to sanitation.
"We cannot have a situation where directives meant to keep our communities clean and disease free are treated with such blatant disregard," Yeboah stated, underscoring the importance of adhering to sanitation laws within the municipality.
While addressing the issue of non-compliance, Yeboah also took the time to thank the residents and volunteers who did attend the clean-up. He praised their sense of civic duty and encouraged all residents of Abuakwa North to view sanitation as an essential part of their daily lives, rather than an obligation.
The forthcoming court actions are expected to reinforce the importance of civic responsibility and enhance efforts to maintain a cleaner environment in the municipality.
