Abor: Construction of the ultra-modern 24-hour economy market in Abor, located within the Keta Municipality, is steadily progressing. Mr. Eric Akuamoah, Project Manager of Mighty Industries Limited, announced that the project is currently at the foundation stage, with about eight to 10 percent completed.
According to Ghana News Agency, the construction commenced on June 21, 2026, as part of the Government's flagship initiative aiming to transform Abor into a vibrant round-the-clock trading hub. This initiative leverages Abor's long-established night trading culture and its strategic position along the ECOWAS highway. Mr. Akuamoah emphasized that the project is expected to be completed within 30 months, adhering to the scope of works agreed upon by the Keta Municipal Assembly and Mighty Industries Limited.
He further explained that the project has progressed without major setbacks since site clearance and mobilisation began. The company is committed to meeting the delivery timeline, with about 70 percent of the workforce consisting of indigenes from Abor and surrounding communities within the Keta Municipality. This engagement aims to create employment opportunities, support livelihoods, and foster a sense of ownership among residents.
Mr. Akuamoah also highlighted that local artisans and laborers have been trained and engaged on the project. He expressed gratitude towards the traditional authorities, opinion leaders, and residents of Abor for their cooperation and support, which have been instrumental in the project's smooth progress. Additionally, Mr. Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, Member of Parliament for Keta, and Mr. Wisdom Seade, Keta Municipal Chief Executive, have maintained a sustained interest in the project, regularly visiting and engaging with the contractor to ensure a cordial atmosphere at the site.
Upon completion, the facility will feature modern stores, sheds, a cr¨che, police post, fire post, borehole, and a standby power generator, among other amenities, to support uninterrupted trading day and night. Mr. Akuamoah assured affected traders and residents that the company would address their concerns and work with the Assembly for a smooth transition into the new market.
He urged the public, particularly traders and transport operators using the Abor market, to exercise patience during construction, assuring them that the long-term benefits would outweigh the temporary inconveniences. Mr. Akuamoah reaffirmed Mighty Industries Limited's commitment to delivering a quality, durable, and functional facility within the stipulated 30-month period, aligning with the Government's vision of positioning Abor as a model 24-hour economy market centre in the Volta Region.
