President Mahama Dissolves National Sports Authority Board

Accra: President John Dramani Mahama has dissolved the Board of the National Sports Authority (NSA) as part of a broader restructuring effort affecting the governing boards of nine state institutions. The dissolution is effective immediately, as per a statement released by Presidential Spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu. According to Ghana Web, the NSA, which is instrumental in managing and developing sports infrastructure and organizing major sporting events in Ghana, is among the institutions whose boards have been dissolved. Other impacted organizations include the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST), Volta Aluminium Company Limited (VALCO), Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited (CBG), Ghana Post Company Limited, TDC Ghana Limited, Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited, and the Road Maintenance Trust Fund. Relevant sector ministers have been instructed to undertake the necessary actions, in line with the applica ble laws and governing instruments, to implement the dissolution. The government has stated that the affected boards will be reconstituted in due course. This development occurs at a crucial juncture for Ghanaian sports, as the country is gearing up for several major sporting projects and events, including preparations for hosting the 2027 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations. The NSA remains a focal point in discussions regarding the maintenance and enhancement of sporting facilities across Ghana.
