Mob from Gomoa Communities Launches Armed Attack on New Winneba

New winneba: A police situational report on the chaos that erupted in New Winneba, a community in the Central Region, has revealed that a mob from three Gomoa communities initiated the violent attacks.

According to Ghana Web, the report detailed that about 300 individuals from these communities, armed with various weapons including guns, began assaulting people and damaging properties in New Winneba around 10:40 am on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. The report specified that the mob came from Gomoa Oguakrom, Gomoa Yenkuadze, and Gomoa Pomadze, targeting the New Winneba Township, Effutu North District Police Headquarters, and other locations, causing significant damage.

The report further disclosed that at least three men were killed in the attacks, and twelve others were injured. "About 15 injured victims have been sent to the Tauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba, including an officer, and 3 have been confirmed dead," stated the police.

Photos related to the incident, as reported by Ghana Web, depicted the bodies of the deceased in a morgue setting, while other images showed injured victims receiving medical attention for wounds sustained on various parts of their bodies.

In the midst of the violence, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus and the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, reportedly narrowly escaped the attacks. He claimed that tensions were fueled by a group allegedly operating as landguards who had taken control of lands in the area. However, this claim was not corroborated in the police report.
