Accra: The husband of Theresa Boakye Dua Asante, a 31-year-old woman who died during childbirth at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, known as Ridge Hospital, has vowed to seek full accountability for his wife's death.
According to Ghana Web, Daniel Ofori Asante, also known as KODA, expressed his determination in a Facebook post following his wife's burial. He shared that his resolve was strengthened by many Ghanaians who recounted their own experiences with maternal mortality, which turned his grief into an unyielding resolve. Asante is committed to pursuing accountability and answers regarding the circumstances surrounding his wife's preventable death, hoping that such mistakes will not happen again.
Asante expressed gratitude to citizens and well-wishers for their solidarity during this difficult time. He emphasized that the widespread support has transformed his grief into a firm resolve to prevent similar incidents in the future. He highlighted that no family, husband, or newborn should endure the pain he and his son now carry, stating that bringing life into the world should not cost a woman hers, whether at Ridge Hospital or any other health facility in Ghana.
Theresa Boakye Dua Asante died on the evening of July 16, 2026, at Ridge Hospital after undergoing a scheduled elective Caesarean section, which was her first childbirth. The couple had been married for 19 months, and their newborn son survived. Asante has previously accused the hospital of negligence and unprofessionalism, though specific clinical details remain under contention.
