Accra: Bernard Anbataayela Mornah, the former flagbearer of the People's National Convention (PNC) ahead of the 2024 general elections, has disclosed the circumstances that prompted his resignation from his position as an account officer at the Internal Revenue Service, now known as the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), in 2023. Mornah stated that his inability to manage finances effectively was a key factor in his decision to leave the job.
According to Ghana Web, Mornah, in an interview on UTV's Ayekoo with Anim Addo on August 27, 2026, revealed that during his tenure at the Internal Revenue Service, he occasionally used office funds to support individuals he referred to as his 'boys.' He acknowledged that his penchant for sharing money could have led to serious consequences, including potential arrest.
Mornah elaborated on his financial struggles, explaining that his salary was insufficient, which led him to use office funds to address personal and external financial pressures. He recounted how his boss, Owusu Ansah, urged him to perform his duties diligently and rectify any errors made by fellow officers.
In an attempt to mitigate the situation, Mornah used his salary to replenish the office funds he had previously allocated elsewhere during monthly audits. However, it was the intervention of his boss that prompted Mornah to confront his financial mismanagement and ultimately resign.
Mornah recounted a pivotal moment when Owusu Ansah pointed out his pattern of replacing office money with his salary during audits. Ansah warned Mornah of the potential repercussions if auditors discovered discrepancies. This conversation served as a wakeup call for Mornah, leading him to realize that he was not suited for roles involving cash management, prompting his resignation.
