Accra: Professor Ransford Gyampo has criticised the Minority in Parliament for boycotting the vetting of Supreme Court nominees, saying the move shows that Ghana's democracy is not making enough progress. 'We are not maturing. We are not growing our democracy, and our democratic maturity will remain slow,' the CEO of the Ghana Shippers Authority said on TV3's Key Points.
According to Ghana Web, the comments from Professor Gyampo followed the Minority's decision to walk out of the vetting process on August 27, 2026. The walkout was led by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who argued that the Majority was abusing its numbers and failing to adhere to Parliament's Standing Orders.
The Minority Caucus protested the legality of the process and, as a result, refused to participate in the vetting of the Supreme Court nominees. They cited alleged breaches of parliamentary procedure as the reason for their boycott, further highlighting the ongoing tensions within Ghana's legislative body.
