Accra: Anti-corruption campaigner, Martin Amidu, has raised concerns over the Office of the Special Prosecutor's (OSP) focus on Dr. Kwabena Donkor, the former Power Minister, in the ongoing investigation into the Asante Kwaku Berko-AKSA Ghana bribery case. Amidu pointed out that significant financial transactions related to the case took place after Donkor left office.
According to Ghana Web, Amidu highlighted US court records that reveal the continuation of the bribery transactions beyond Donkor's tenure. These records indicate that substantial amounts of money were transferred to Ghana between January and December 2016, a period after Donkor's service as Minister of Power ended in December 2015.
In an open letter, Amidu questioned the rationale behind identifying Donkor as the primary political figure in connection with the case. He emphasized that the timeline of events should prompt an investigation into the activities at the Ministry of Power following Donkor's departure. Amidu called on former President Mahama and Kissi Agyebeng to clarify who was responsible for the Ministry between January 2016 and January 2017.
Furthermore, Amidu inquired about the identity of a politically exposed person mentioned in the US court records, described as a relative of President Mahama. He urged that these issues be included in the investigation to provide a comprehensive understanding of the Ghanaian dimension of the case, instead of focusing solely on Donkor.
