Accra: The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has categorically dismissed allegations of significant financial losses in 2025. Contrary to claims made by Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader in Parliament, Gyamfi stated that GoldBod's audited accounts reveal an overall surplus of GHS5.4 billion, not the US$1.7 billion loss that was reported.
According to Ghana Web, during the Government Accountability Series on August 19, 2026, Afenyo-Markin claimed that GoldBod experienced losses amounting to approximately GHS22 billion in 2025. He referenced IMF Country Report No. 26/213 to support his statement, describing these alleged losses as a 'structural bleeding' of the national purse. However, Gyamfi countered these claims by presenting GoldBod's financial statements, which showed an operational surplus of GHS907 million and an overall surplus of GHS5.4 billion for the year ending December 30, 2025.
In a firm response, Gyamfi emphasized that the Auditor-General's review of GoldBod's 2025 operations found no adverse findings against the institution. He challenged Afenyo-Markin to substantiate his claims by pointing to specific evidence within the cited report. Gyamfi's statement underscores the institution's financial health and refutes the allegations of substantial losses purported by the parliamentary leader.
