Accra: Private legal practitioner, Thaddeus Sory, has criticized former Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, over comments concerning court cases during the legal vacation. Speaking on the KSM show on August 17, 2026, Sory remarked that lawyers could not simply refuse to appear in court because the courts were on legal vacation, describing such a position as unethical and condemnable.
According to Ghana Web, Sory stated that although he had not personally heard Dame claim that lawyers would not appear in court, such a stance would be wrong if it had indeed been made. He emphasized that this position would be very unethical and condemnable. Sory's comments were made in the context of discussing the legal vacation debate and concerns about how lawyers handle cases during this period.
Sory further criticized Dame, urging the former Attorney General to be more measured in his public comments, especially given his experience as a former leader of the Ghana Bar Association. He pointed out that higher standards are expected of someone who has held positions of leadership within the legal community.
He acknowledged that Dame, like any other professional, is capable of making mistakes and should be open to criticism of his work as Attorney General. Sory advised that Dame should learn from areas where people are unhappy with his work, rather than always trying to defend or justify his decisions. By doing so, Dame could earn more respect and demonstrate humility in acknowledging valid points made by critics.
Sory also noted that no person, including a former Attorney General, is perfect. He argued that attempting to justify every decision could appear biased and would not necessarily convince critics who believed mistakes had been made. Sory concluded that such attempts would not persuade any serious person and were ultimately unnecessary.
