Accra: National Director of Operations for the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Dr Samuel Sasu Mensah, has voiced a strong commitment to promoting safety, dignity, and support for cyclists in Accra. This initiative seeks to transform the city into a model environment for safe riding.
According to Ghana Web, ACP Dr Sasu Mensah addressed partners, stakeholders, and cycling enthusiasts at the launch of the 2026 PRURide event. He emphasized that the initiative transcends mere convenience, symbolizing a broader commitment to cyclist safety and the respect they merit on the roads. He stated, "PRURide is not just about convenience; it is also about dignity and safety. MTTD stands ready to partner with PRURide to make Accra a model city for safe commercial riding."
His remarks underscored the burgeoning collaboration between Prudential Life Insurance Ghana and Ghana's traffic safety authorities. Through the PRURide initiative, there is a concerted effort not only to promote cycling but also to foster a safer and more sustainable environment for cyclists navigating Accra's streets.
The launch event was attended by significant partners, including the Ghana Cycling Federation, Ghana Olympic Committee, Ghana Police Service, and the University of Ghana Sports and Wellness Directorate. Their presence was a testament to the robust cooperation and unified commitment underpinning this year's PRURide effort.
As part of the PRURide activities, a Fun Ride will be held on the University of Ghana Campus on Saturday, August 22, 2026, beginning from the Diaspora Halls at 7.00 am. The event is expected to draw the participation of the Minister of Sports and Recreation, the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, the Director General of the National Sports Authority, the CEO and employees of Prudential Life Insurance Ghana, corporate bodies, cyclists, students, and the general public.
The Elite Race for the 2026 PRURide is scheduled for Sunday, September 6, on the Borteyman Highway. With the backing of MTTD and an expanding network of partners, PRURide 2026 is set to be a pivotal event for cycling, road safety, and the future of commercial riding in Ghana.
