Accra: Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has expressed concern over Ghana's repeated reliance on the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for financial bailouts. He emphasized that after turning to the IMF for assistance 17 times, this should mark the last occasion for Ghana to do so.
According to Ghana Web, Dr. Forson shared his thoughts in a social media post, highlighting the efforts being made by the government of John Dramani Mahama to foster economic independence. He stated, "Seventeen IMF Bailout Programmes are enough. We are restoring discipline, rebuilding resilience and creating an economy that can stand on its own. The seventeenth Bailout must be Ghana's last."
Dr. Forson's remarks underscore the government's commitment to building a self-reliant economy by implementing necessary measures to restore fiscal discipline and enhance economic resilience. The goal is to eliminate the need for future IMF bailouts and ensure that Ghana can sustain its economic growth independently.
