Kumasi: Veteran actress Madam Selassie Ibrahim has called for a fundamental change in the way Ghana's movie industry approaches content creation, arguing that a shift in mindset is necessary to revive the struggling sector.
According to Ghana Web, Madam Selassie Ibrahim emphasized the need for transformation through education and improved scriptwriting while speaking on Angel FM, Kumasi. She insisted that Ghana possesses the talent necessary to compete on a broader scale if the right creative structures are implemented. "This can be done through education and scriptwriting. Nigerians are doing it, so why can't we do it?" she questioned.
She pointed out that the industry's continued reliance on unsuccessful approaches has led to a sense of resignation among some industry players. "It seems we have given up on ourselves because we are doing it and it is not working," she stated.
Madam Selassie Ibrahim further warned that without rethinking the approach to content creation, the consequences could extend beyond the decline of the movie sector. This could particularly impact talented young people seeking opportunities in the creative industry. "There are people with better talent than us. If we do that, we will suppress their talent and destroy it," she concluded.
