Accra: The Chancellor of KAAF University, Michael Aidoo, has called on the government to extend its interventions and support to private universities, emphasizing their significant role in national development.
According to Ghana Web, Chancellor Aidoo made this appeal during the launch of KAAF University's 20th anniversary logo. He highlighted the contributions of private universities to the country's development through their innovative programmes that have educated many Ghanaians. He stressed that despite their critical role in expanding access to tertiary education, private universities have been largely excluded from government support and interventions.
Chancellor Aidoo also addressed the government's 'No-Fees-Stress' policy, which currently benefits first-year students in public tertiary institutions by covering their academic user fees. He pointed out that this policy alleviates financial burdens for students and families in public universities but leaves out eligible students attending private universities. He urged the government to broaden this intervention to include private university students to reduce their financial challenges.
In his concluding remarks, Chancellor Aidoo emphasized the importance of recognizing private universities as essential partners in achieving the 'Resetting Ghana' agenda. He advocated for their inclusion in government interventions to ensure the delivery of job-ready graduates.
The anniversary logo, unveiled during the event, features a golden '20' encircled by the KAAF University crest and name, symbolizing two decades since its establishment in 2007. The logo also incorporates the university's shield, adorned with the 'Gye Nyame' Adinkra symbol and a traditional Kente pattern.
Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, present at the event, praised KAAF University for its contributions to tertiary education over the past 20 years. She encouraged the university and other educational institutions to align their programmes with national development goals, highlighting key areas such as engineering, digital innovation, healthcare, governance, and law as priorities for building a prosperous Ghana.
