Accra: Media personality and socialite Afia Schwarzenegger has voiced her opinion on the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) recent demonstration, labeling it as childish. In a post on her social media pages, Schwarzenegger criticized the 'Democracy Under Attack' protest, arguing that the party was rallying against issues that she and others allegedly faced during the NPP's tenure in government.
According to Ghana Web, the demonstration was organized by the NPP to protest what they described as recurring arrests of alleged critics of the party and instances of selective justice under the current administration. However, Afia Schwarzenegger suggested that the party should focus on advising its supporters and emphasized her stance against insulting public officials.
Schwarzenegger stated, "NPP demonstrating against things they did to some of us is childish. Tell our people to stop fooling around for their own peace. I won't condone any insults against Dr Bawumia and his wife, and neither will the NDC."
In recent years, Afia Schwarzenegger has been involved in several legal disputes, police complaints, and court cases related to defamation and alleged social media insults. Meanwhile, on August 6, 2026, some members of the opposition NPP took to the streets of Accra to protest against what they viewed as selective justice and the misuse of state institutions. The protestors marched to the Supreme Court, Parliament House, and Jubilee House, presenting petitions and calling on state institutions to uphold democratic principles and protect constitutional rights.
The NPP described the protest as a constitutional engagement meant to highlight concerns about Ghana's democratic governance. Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin warned that the alleged arrests of critics and claims of selective justice could impact members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) if the NPP returns to power in 2028.
