SSNIT Disburses GHS7.6 Billion to Pensioners in 2025 – NPRA

Accra: The National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) has disclosed that the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) disbursed GHS7.6 billion to pensioners in 2025. This development comes as the scheme experienced growth in contributions, assets, and investments.

According to Ghana Web, the NPRA's 2025 Annual Report highlighted that SSNIT concluded the year with 2.14 million active contributors and 261,928 pensioners. The scheme's total assets soared to GHS30.6 billion, boasting a 23.8% return on its investments.

The pension payments increased after SSNIT elevated the minimum monthly pension from GHS300 to GHS396.58, marking a rise of over 32%. This adjustment followed an average 12% pension increase that was implemented in January 2025. The average monthly pension also saw an increase from GHS1,776.81 to GHS1,990.03.

The report indicated that SSNIT accumulated GHS9.7 billion in contributions from workers and employers throughout the year, aiding it in fulfilling its commitments to retirees. Across the broader pensions sector, the total pension funds under management expanded by 28.9% to GHS111.1 billion in 2025, up from GHS86.09 billion in 2024.

The NPRA mentioned that this growth was driven by regular contributions and robust investment performance. The regulator added that the pensions industry remained stable despite fluctuations in inflation and interest rates. To ensure the safety of pension savings and maintain trust in the pension system, the regulator committed to enhancing supervision and risk management.
