Tema: The Ghana Police Service in Tema has intercepted 866 parcels of a substance suspected to be cocaine, concealed in sacks of gari and konkonte, which were allegedly being prepared for export. This significant seizure has led to the arrest of three suspects, including a Dutch national and two Ghanaians, who are believed to be connected to the consignment.
According to Ghana Web, the operation was conducted following intelligence reports and took place at approximately 8:00 pm on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. The police operation was meticulously planned and executed, resulting in the discovery of the suspicious packages at a warehouse within the Tema Port enclave.
Sources close to the operation revealed that the suspects were detained while allegedly overseeing a group of men loading the sacks into a 40-foot container. The police suspect that the white powdered substance found in the 866 parcels is cocaine. The seizure marks a critical point in the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
The suspects, along with the truck and intercepted parcels, are currently in police custody as investigations proceed.
