Ohwimase: Assembly members of the Kwadaso Municipal Assembly and commercial drivers operating at the Ohwimase Junction lorry terminal in the Ashanti Region have vowed to resist any attempt to convert the community's designated lorry terminal into a fuel station.
According to Ghana Web, the aggrieved assembly members, during a press conference on Tuesday, August 3, 2026, alleged that some individuals were using the name of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to lay claim to the parcel of land. They emphasized that the land was reserved for constructing a modern lorry terminal to serve Ohwimase and its surrounding communities. The assembly members expressed their determination to prevent any developments that would undermine the original plan and adversely affect local livelihoods.
The assembly members highlighted the potential impact of the proposed conversion on commercial drivers, traders, and numerous residents who rely on the terminal for daily economic activities. They appealed to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to intervene and protect the land from encroachment. They also urged the Kwadaso Municipal Assembly and relevant state institutions to investigate the matter to ensure the land remains dedicated to its intended public purpose.
Oscar Antwi, speaking on behalf of the government appointees to the Kwadaso Municipal Assembly, condemned the alleged move. Antwi stated that converting the lorry terminal into a fuel station could affect residents' livelihoods and create a negative public perception of the government's commitment to public lands meant for community development. He called for swift action from all stakeholders to preserve the land for the community and future generations.
Commercial drivers at the Ohwimase Junction terminal also appealed to the Asantehene and appropriate authorities to intervene. They emphasized the terminal's critical role in transporting residents and goods to neighboring communities. They warned that converting the terminal into a fuel station would disrupt transportation services, displace drivers and traders, and threaten the livelihoods of families dependent on the facility.
The drivers stressed the importance of upgrading the facility to meet the transportation and economic needs of the growing Ohwimase community. They called on Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and relevant authorities to ensure the land is protected and developed as a modern lorry terminal.
