Kumasi: Mr Kofi Adu Domfeh, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has called for greater investment in the financial empowerment and professional capacity development of media practitioners to enable them to deliver quality journalism. He emphasized the importance of financial stability for journalists to perform their duties effectively and maintain high professional standards.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Domfeh made the call at a media and stakeholder forum organised by MTN Ghana in Kumasi. The event aimed at strengthening engagement with journalists and other stakeholders. He urged MTN Ghana to complement its longstanding support for the media by introducing initiatives aimed at building the financial resilience of journalists in the Ashanti Region.
Mr Domfeh highlighted the need for capacity building among media practitioners, especially in the era of new media. He stressed that financial security is essential for journalists to excel in their professional roles while managing their personal responsibilities.
Furthermore, Mr Domfeh commended MTN Ghana for its cordial relationship with the media over the years and expressed hope for the continued growth of this partnership. He praised the company's consistent engagement with journalists, describing the relationship as mutually beneficial.
The Regional Chairman also encouraged journalists to use such gatherings to strengthen professional networks and build lasting relationships with colleagues across different media organisations. He noted that beyond interactions with MTN officials, the forum provided an opportunity for journalists to get to know one another better, share experiences, and foster collaboration.
Mr Domfeh concluded by stating that stronger professional relationships among media practitioners would contribute to improving journalism practice and advancing the profession in the region.
