Accra: Kwesi Pratt Jnr, Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper and a well-known Nkrumalist, has made a public call for the Western Region to receive an equitable portion of the national resources. Speaking at the launch of NkrumahFest 2026, held on Friday, July 31, 2026, at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra, Pratt emphasized the need for the region to benefit more from its abundant natural resources.
According to Ghana Web, Pratt highlighted the underdevelopment of the Western Region despite its rich natural resources. He strongly advocated for the region's development, emphasizing the importance of providing resources that would allow the people to improve their education and livelihood. Pratt expressed concern over the neglect of the Western Region, pointing out its significant contributions to the country's resources and leadership, including figures like Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and Paa Grant.
In his address, Pratt also urged the government to reconsider its plans regarding the Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO). He called for the revival of VALCO rather than its sale, arguing that such a move would create employment opportunities for Ghanaians.
During the event, Nana Kwasi Kutuah V, Chief of Nkroful, invited Ghanaians to visit Nkroful in September to support its development. He praised Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, MP for Ellembelle and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, for establishing NkrumahFest and promoting the Western Region's growth.
The launch of NkrumahFest 2026 was attended by notable figures, including Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah's children Samiah Yaba Nkrumah and Sekou Nkrumah, as well as Ghana's Special Envoy to the Caribbean, King Kwasi Kyei Dankwa, among others.
