Accra: Apostle Dr Eric Nyamekye, Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, has urged judges to uphold conscience, integrity, and values in the administration of justice. He emphasized that judges must allow their decisions to be guided by truth, moral principles, and a clear conscience, as they determine matters affecting people's lives.
According to Ghana News Agency, Apostle Nyamekye made the call at a thanksgiving service in Accra to mark the 150th anniversary of Ghana's Supreme Court, held on the theme: 'Honouring the Past, Celebrating the Present and Defining the Future.' He stressed the importance of integrity in the judiciary, stating that judges should be supremely concerned about conscience and time-tested values in all decisions.
Apostle Nyamekye highlighted that the future of the country's justice system would depend on the quality and character of judges produced, urging them to leave positive legacies for future generations. He explained that values play a crucial role in decision-making, especially in difficult circumstances, and act as a filter that makes choices easier, provides inner strength, and enables people to live authentic lives.
He further noted the importance of a well-formed conscience, which matures in the grace of God and guides individuals to remain committed to their convictions regardless of circumstances. He called on Christians and public officials to apply the teachings of God in their daily lives and emphasized the significance of living by convictions tied with principles and values.
Apostle Nyamekye also appealed to the public to desist from falsehood and urged the church to uphold the values, principles, and lifestyle of the kingdom of God. The thanksgiving service was attended by clergy, serving and retired judges, and representatives from various government services. Prayers were offered for the nation and its arms of government by prominent religious leaders.
