Accra: Former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame has criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Mahama government following the acquittal of former MASLOC CEO Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu. He expressed concern over what he perceives as a dual justice system in Ghana, favoring certain political figures.
According to Ghana Web, Dame issued a press release condemning the Court of Appeal's decision to acquit Tamakloe, asserting that it aligns with the current Attorney-General's tendency to drop cases against prominent NDC members and affiliates. He likened the situation to a re-enactment of the infamous Woyome scandal, indicating that Ghana's legal system is being compromised.
Dame dismissed allegations from NDC communicators that the Akufo-Addo administration was responsible for the acquittal. He emphasized that during his tenure, no appeal notice filed by Sedina Attionu in 2024 was received by the Office of the Attorney-General. He stated that state attorneys only became aware of the appeal when the Court of Appeal directed parties to submit their arguments in April 2026.
Highlighting procedural issues, Dame noted that even if an appeal was filed in 2024, it remained inactive until the NDC regained power. His primary concern was ensuring that the High Court's 10-year sentence for Tamakloe, issued in April 2024, was enforced. He pointed out that Tamakloe's legal team only obtained permission to submit written arguments in February 2026, after he had left office, catching state attorneys by surprise.
Dame further accused the current Attorney-General of implementing a biased legal strategy, aggressively prosecuting opposition figures while dismissing cases involving NDC members. He argued that such practices undermine the integrity of the justice system and create a divide where political allies evade accountability while opponents are unfairly penalized.
He concluded by urging Ghanaians to demand higher standards from a government that has discontinued criminal cases against its key members since taking office.
