Ledzokuku: The Ledzokuku Municipal Director of Education, Theresa Tetteh, has made an earnest appeal to parents to actively engage in the upcoming school selection process to ensure that their children are enrolled in appropriate educational institutions, thereby avoiding potential errors.
According to Ghana Web, Tetteh highlighted the importance of parental involvement in the process to prevent mistakes that might lead to children not being placed in their preferred schools, which could pose significant challenges. Her appeal was made during a sensitisation workshop aimed at educating headteachers and guidance coordinators from both public and private basic schools in Ledzokuku Municipality about the 2026 school selection and placement process.
The workshop provided participants with guidelines on school selection, including the categories of schools to choose from, important dos and don'ts, and a list of private senior high schools available for selection. Tetteh advised against leaving the selection process solely to teachers, urging parents to collaborate with educators or handle the process themselves to prevent future disputes over school placements.
David Gbedzi, the Ledzokuku Municipal Examination Officer, emphasized the significance of adhering to the selection criteria and being mindful of updates to this year's selection process. He also stressed the importance of accurately using selection codes to avoid errors.
Charity Willie-Doe, the Municipal Guidance and Counselling Coordinator, advised participants to pay attention to the courses their children wish to pursue and to assist parents seeking guidance. She recommended that parents consider TVET and STEM programmes as valuable first-choice options, urging them to align course selections with their children's strengths and interests to avoid future regrets.
The release of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has initiated the school selection phase for qualified candidates. A total of 620,243 candidates, including those with various special needs, participated in the examination. These candidates are now required to select a Senior High School, STEM school, or TVET institution.
