Accra: The Ghana Police Service has reportedly stopped the hearse scheduled to transport the remains of the late Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka from Transitions Funeral Home.
According to Ghana Web, the police intervention is linked to an interim injunction issued by the Accra High Court, which seeks to suspend the funeral proceedings. The injunction has added complexity to the burial arrangements as thousands have gathered at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region for the final rites of the founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission.
The funeral has drawn sympathisers from across the country, with many arriving by bus to pay their respects. Notable attendees include Kumawood actress Oheneyere Mercy Asiedu, fashion entrepreneur Osebo the Zaraman, traditional leaders, and numerous family members, church members, and admirers.
The police action is part of the ongoing legal dispute concerning Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka's funeral, following an order by the Accra High Court on Tuesday, July 29, 2026. The court granted a 10-day interim injunction restraining former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, from proceeding with the funeral arrangements pending the court's decision on the case.
The court's order aims to maintain the status quo while deliberating on the substantive issues of the case.
