Accra: The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) announced that a recent consignment of military equipment donated by the United States will significantly enhance its capabilities in counter-terrorism operations, intelligence gathering, and border security. The GAF received 84 pallets of assorted military equipment from the United States Embassy during a ceremony attended by senior military officials and representatives from the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM).
According to Ghana Web, the Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, emphasized that the equipment would bolster Ghana's operational readiness and ability to safeguard its borders and maritime domain. He highlighted that the sophisticated equipment would enhance intelligence, reconnaissance, and training for the armed forces, improving their effectiveness in counter-terrorism and internal security operations.
Rear Admiral Bessing expressed gratitude to the United States, acknowledging the donation as a testament to the enduring defense partnership between the two nations. He noted that the United States has been a consistent supporter of the Ghana Armed Forces through training, technical assistance, and equipment over the years. The latest donation marks another milestone in this ongoing cooperation.
The Chief of the Naval Staff assured the United States that the new equipment would be deployed responsibly and effectively by the Ghana Armed Forces to safeguard the country's territorial integrity. The equipment is intended to strengthen Ghana's national defense interests and contribute to regional peace and security across West Africa.
The handover ceremony was attended by the United States Charg© d'Affaires, Rolf Olson, senior military officers, officials from the United States Military Group, and other invited guests.
