Accra: Deputy Attorney-General, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, has refuted claims made by Dennis Miracles Aboagye, a member of the New Patriotic Party's communications team, regarding the investigation of alleged GHS55 million financial irregularities involving the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD). Aboagye had asserted that he was not questioned by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on the matter.
According to Ghana Web, Dr. Srem-Sai addressed the issue while speaking on TV3's Hot Issues. He labeled Aboagye's assertion as "completely wrong," emphasizing that Aboagye was indeed questioned during the investigation process. Dr. Srem-Sai clarified that the public should not regard claims made by suspects as factual merely because law enforcement agencies do not publicly respond amid ongoing investigations.
He explained that EOCO is not obliged to reveal details of its investigations in reaction to public discussions, highlighting that the evidence collected during such probes will ultimately be presented in court. "At the end of the day, we will bring you to court. We will charge you. You will have your day," Dr. Srem-Sai stated, underscoring the importance of the judicial process.
Furthermore, Dr. Srem-Sai urged the public to avoid interpreting investigative agencies' silence as confirmation of claims made by individuals under investigation. He reaffirmed that the work of law enforcement is such that not every aspect can be publicly addressed, especially during the investigative phase.
