Accra: Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has declared that President John Dramani Mahama will not be granted a third term, accusing the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of concealing a "third term agenda" within the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review presented by Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson.
According to Ghana Web, during a speech on the floor of Parliament, Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin criticized the budget presentation, stating that while it appeared favorable on paper, it failed to reflect the true economic conditions experienced by ordinary Ghanaians. He asserted that the NDC's agenda was hidden within the budget, suggesting that funds would be used to garner support for a third term. He assured that the opposition was vigilant.
Afenyo-Markin emphatically declared that Ghanaians would not permit President Mahama to secure another term, arguing that his administration had not met the needs of the populace. He also criticized the NDC for exacerbating the difficulties faced by Ghanaians, listing several social interventions initiated by the previous Akufo-Addo administration that were either dismantled or discontinued under Mahama's leadership.
He raised concerns about the cancellation of the New Patriotic Party's One District, One Factory (1D1F) policy, the termination of public sector employees, and the increasing electricity tariffs. "We are not interested in the books. We are interested in the economy in our pockets. People are suffering. People need jobs," he stated passionately.
