Veteran Kumawood Actor Kwadwo Kwakye Obuobi Dies After Kidney Failure Battle

Accra: Veteran Kumawood actor and filmmaker, Kwadwo Kwakye Obuobi, has reportedly passed away after a prolonged battle with kidney failure. According to Ghana Web, Kumasi-based Akoma FM was among the first to report the sad news, sending shockwaves through Ghana's film community and triggering an outpouring of tributes from fans and colleagues.

Obuobi's health struggles had become widely known in recent months after fellow industry players rallied to support him financially during his treatment. Kumawood star Kojo Nkansah LilWin donated GHS10,000 towards his medical expenses, while veteran actress Oheneyere Mercy Asiedu made a GHS50,000 donation to help fund the kidney transplant he needed. Despite the generous outpouring of support from colleagues and well-wishers, the actor sadly could not make it.

Kwadwo Kwakye Obuobi was widely respected in the Kumawood industry for his contributions both in front of and behind the camera, having built a career that spanned acting and filmmaking over many years. Tributes continue to pour in as the industry mourns one of its own.
