Accra: Sister Christiana Chika Fieabunike, Headmistress of Techiman Mount Carmel Girls Senior High School in the Bono East Region, has appealed to the Government to support the school’s infrastructure development. She highlighted the need for assistance to complete several projects, including a dormitory, a dining hall, and a Home Economics laboratory, which have been left unfinished for several years.
According to Ghana News Agency, Sister Fieabunike acknowledged the Government’s efforts in awarding contracts for the construction of an administration block, a science laboratory, and a semi-detached bungalow. In an interview at Techiman, she emphasized the school’s commitment to producing responsible and disciplined young women, as well as the importance of empowering girl-child education in the region.
Established on October 26, 2006, Mount Carmel Girls SHS is marking its 20th anniversary this year. Sister Fieabunike expressed gratitude towards the Most Reverend Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, Catholic Bishop of the Sunyani Diocese, and the Sisters of the Handmaids of the Holy Child Jesus Congregation for their contributions to the school’s growth. She also thanked the St Paul’s Catholic Church, Techiman, for their support since the school’s inception.
The school began with 150 students, five teachers, and seven non-teaching staff under the leadership of the late Sister Veronica Adum Fosua. It has since grown to accommodate approximately 1,287 students, supported by 80 teaching and 30 non-teaching staff. Sister Fieabunike noted the school’s impressive performance in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
With the support of Mr Alex Kyeremeh, a former Techiman Municipal Chief Executive, the school was incorporated into the public school system in 2012. The institution has also made a name for itself in the National Science and Maths Quiz, sporting events, and co-curricular activities. Recently, it was recognized as the best school in the Bono East Regional Public Speaking Competition.
Sister Fieabunike expressed pride in the school’s disciplined environment and commended the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) for its continuous support. She announced that a grand durbar would be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, to celebrate the school’s 20th anniversary.
