Accra: A group of New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicators in the Bono Region has officially picked nomination forms for Mr. Abubakar Yakubu, popularly known as 'Baba Amando', to contest for the position of Bono Regional Communications Director. The communicators, who support Mr. Yakubu's candidacy, have also paid the GHS5,000 filing fee on his behalf.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Yakubu, the current Sunyani East Constituency Communications Officer of the NPP, is facing a trial at the Adenta District Court Nine on charges related to cyber offences. He gained attention after his arrest on April 13, 2026, for allegedly making false publications and distributing altered images of President John Dramani Mahama.
Mr. Richard Appiah-Kubi, spokesperson for the group and newly elected Tain Constituency Communications Officer, expressed the group's unwavering support for Mr. Yakubu at a media briefing in Sunyani. He stated that Mr. Yakubu is the type of communicator the NPP needs to reclaim political power in the 2028 general elections. Appiah-Kubi also accused the Government of using state institutions to intimidate Mr. Yakubu.
Despite the ongoing trial, Mr. Yakubu remains committed to his political aspirations. In a phone interview with the Ghana News Agency, he thanked party members and executives for their support. He promised to diligently serve the party and contribute to its efforts to regain political power in 2028. Mr. Yakubu emphasized the importance of unity within the party as a key to electoral success and improving the lives of Ghanaians.
