Accra: The Paramount Chief of the Awiaso Traditional Area, King Kaku Aka III, has made an urgent appeal to Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie to investigate the circumstances surrounding the exhumation of the body of the Queenmother of the Royal Nvavile Family, Obahyemaa Bulu Beneye. The incident occurred at Ekpu, near Half-Assini in the Jomoro Municipality of the Western Region.
According to Ghana Web, the exhumation was carried out by the Jomoro Municipal Assembly. King Kaku Aka III expressed that the Queenmother had been respectfully laid to rest approximately ten months ago. The matter was brought to public attention by Egya Annor Kwasi, the spokesperson for King Kaku Aka III, during a media briefing at the Nzema Kotoko Kingdom in Awiaso, located in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region.
On Monday, June 29, 2026, a group reportedly accompanied by armed security personnel, entered the residence of the Clan Head of the Royal Nvavile Family, Abusuakpanyinli Edward Eliason, at Ekpu. After customary greetings, they proceeded to the Queenmother's burial site and informed the clan head of a court order mandating the exhumation of Obahyemaa Bulu Beneye's remains.
The clan head claimed that the Queenmother's remains were taken to a hospital morgue without the consultation or consent of the Royal Nvavile Family. Egya Annor Kwasi expressed deep concern and dissatisfaction, stating that the court's directive had allowed the family a week to prepare for the exhumation, which was not honored.
He called on the Chief Justice to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure justice and fairness prevail in the matter.
