Tamale: The Anbariya Sunni Muslim community and the Tamale Central Mosque Muslim community have each received 200 bags of fertilizer to support their farming activities for improved productivity.
According to Ghana News Agency, the fertilizer, donated by Mr. Eric Opoku, Minister for Food and Agriculture, will be distributed amongst members of the two Muslim communities, who are into farming to enhance crop production and contribute to food security in the country.
Mr. Abubakari Abdul Mumin, Managing Director of Buipe PBC Shea Factory, handed over the bags of fertilizer to the leaders of the two Muslim communities in Tamale, stating that they were a personal donation from the Minister. Mr. Mumin emphasized that this gesture is part of the Minister's commitment to supporting farmers, especially those in the northern part of the country, to increase food production and improve their livelihoods.
The donation is also intended to complement the government's efforts to strengthen agriculture, improve food security, and create sustainable livelihoods for farming households across the Northern Region. Mr. Mumin expressed hope that the support would reduce the burden on beneficiaries and encourage them to cultivate more acres of farmland.
Access to fertilizer remains a significant challenge for many farmers due to the high cost of agricultural inputs. Mr. Mumin urged the beneficiaries to use the fertilizer for its intended purpose to maximize yields during the current farming season. He also noted that the Minister has previously supported farmers in other districts and plans to continue this initiative across the country to ensure farmers have sufficient fertilizer for their crops.
Shiek Abdul Salam Ahmed, Northern Regional Chief Imam, represented by Alhaji Saibu Abarika, received the fertilizer and expressed gratitude to the Minister for the timely gesture. He acknowledged that the donation would significantly aid farmers struggling to purchase fertilizer and assured that it would be distributed fairly to deserving beneficiaries.
