Accra: Controversial Ghanaian lawyer, Maurice Ampaw, has cautioned people in intimate relationships about the dos and don'ts of spending time with their partners, warning that certain actions could have legal consequences.
According to Ghana Web, relationships come with various risks and individuals must be careful about their actions to avoid situations that could potentially lead to legal trouble. Ampaw explained that men, in particular, should be cautious about allowing women to spend the night at their homes. He emphasized that after an intimate encounter, it is safer for a partner to leave rather than stay overnight.
'Men should know that when you call a lady, you do that at your own risk. A friend judge told me that he had met a lady at Legon and was planning to take her to Royal Senchi but I told him that, for me, I don't support sleepovers; it should be for a short time,' Ampaw said while speaking in an interview on Wontumi TV on July 7, 2026. Ampaw claimed that after the judge took the woman on the trip, she almost died because she was an asthma patient.
Highlighting the potential dangers, Ampaw warned, 'There are some women who are already sick and if you are not careful, they can die in your presence.' He further recounted an incident involving an acquaintance whose partner allegedly died in his room, resulting in him being jailed for years. 'As a man, do not allow a woman to sleep at your place overnight because that can land you in trouble,' he advised.
Addressing women, the lawyer urged them to take precautionary measures when visiting men. He advised women to document their surroundings by recording videos of the apartment, location, and other relevant details, not the person's private moments, so that such information can serve as evidence if an incident occurs. 'When visiting a man, you should take pictures for evidence purposes so that if anything happens, there will be evidence,' he said. He also advised women to inform someone they trust about their whereabouts whenever they visit a partner, stressing the importance of safety and accountability.
