Twifo atti-morkwa: The Assistant Headteacher of Morkwa Senior High School in the Central Region's Twifo Atti-Morkwa District, Mr. Eric Pesu, has made a public appeal to the government, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and other stakeholders for immediate assistance to improve the school's infrastructure.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Pesu highlighted that the school is grappling with significant infrastructure deficiencies that are impeding teaching and learning. The school lacks sufficient classroom blocks, dormitories for both boys and girls, a dining hall, an administration block, and other crucial educational facilities.
Mr. Pesu elaborated on the issue, stating that the existing infrastructure constraints have resulted in all students from SHS One, Two, and Three sharing a single eight-unit classroom block. This situation has led to overcrowding, complicating the efforts to provide effective teaching and learning. The inadequate infrastructure has been identified as a factor negatively impacting students' academic performance, a concern raised during the observation of the 'Tree for Life' Initiative at the school.
Several students corroborated the Assistant Headteacher's concerns in conversations with the GNA. They described the challenges they face as 'depressing' and echoed the call for immediate intervention to alleviate their difficulties.
In a related development, Dunkwa District Forest Range Manager, Mr. Fordjour Asare, issued a warning to the public against engaging in illegal activities within forest reserves. He emphasized that individuals caught engaging in illegal logging or other unlawful activities in protected forests would face prosecution. Mr. Asare urged the public to contribute to protecting Ghana's forests and to avoid indiscriminate tree felling.
Furthermore, the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr. James Prah, used the occasion to request logistical support to enhance the district office's operations. He indicated that his office is in urgent need of vehicles, motorbikes, and other equipment to enable staff to respond effectively to emergencies.
