Accra: A lecturer at Kumasi Technical University, Collins Kankam Kwarteng, has called for a specially trained task force to be deployed to guard Lake Bosomtwe on a regular basis.
According to Ghana Web, Dr. Kwarteng emphasized the importance of having a well-trained security unit to protect the lake from any form of encroachment. He stressed that, similar to the Nile River in Egypt, the livelihood of residents in Bosomtwe relies heavily on the lake, which necessitates its protection at all costs.
Dr. Kwarteng's appeal comes amid reports of illegal mining activities in communities near the lake. During an appearance on Kumasi-based OTEC FM's morning show, Nyansapo, he cautioned that the lake could face pollution if measures are not taken to curb the miners' activities.
Additionally, he urged residents in the district to actively resist any efforts by individuals attempting to damage the lake through illegal mining operations.
