Accra: Minister of the Interior, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, has stated that the severity of the June 29 rainfall made it challenging to prevent flooding, emphasizing the necessity of a realistic assessment of Ghana's disaster response capabilities.
According to Ghana Web, Muntaka highlighted on JoyNews that the only way to prevent such rainfall from infiltrating homes would be to transform the entire city of Accra into a drainage system, a task visible from an aerial perspective. He also pointed out the limited infrastructure available in Ghana for housing individuals displaced during emergencies, stating that the country lacks the financial capacity to construct emergency shelters.
Muntaka further addressed the need for ongoing planning and coordination among state institutions to enhance emergency response, while acknowledging the constraints posed by the country's current resources.
