Tamale: Thirty-five Police Detectives in the Northern Region have undergone training to upgrade their knowledge and sharpen their skills to help unravel cyber crimes in the country. The day's training, organized by the Northern Regional Police Command, was on the theme: 'Being a Smart Detective in a Smart World'.
According to Ghana News Agency, the training was facilitated by seasoned practitioners in the areas of information and communication technology, hacking, artificial intelligence, and computing. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr. George Appiah-Sakyi, Northern Regional Crime Officer, highlighted the shift from analogue to digital crime-fighting, emphasizing the need for police personnel to adapt to these changes.
ACP Appiah-Sakyi stated, 'We live in a time where crime moves faster than before. Today, much more occurs on digital platforms powered by the internet. Therefore, the threats are no longer just on the street corner. They're in data, in networks, in places the eye cannot see.' He further urged participants to leverage digital tools in line with legal frameworks to gather and analyze information, thus aiding in resolving societal ills, including crime.
Dr. Abdul-Aziz Abdul-Karim, a Forensic and Cyber Security Analyst, presented on 'Digital Forensics: Investigating Crime on Digital Systems and Tracing Digital Footprint'. He guided participants through digital tools and methods for effective investigation. Dr. Abdul-Karim stressed the importance of maintaining evidence integrity from initial contact and thoroughly documenting all investigative actions to build a solid case for court convictions.
Dr. Arnold Mashud Abukari, Senior Lecturer at Tamale Technical University and Information Technology Security Analyst, discussed 'Foundations of Cybersecurity for Law Enforcement in the Context of Cyber Threat Landscape'. He highlighted the necessity for the country to develop its own artificial intelligence and digital platforms. This development would ensure that national data remains within the country, aiding in effective crime-fighting efforts.
