Lagos: Nafisat, the newlywed wife of Nigerian movie star Akin Olaiya, has accused him of domestic violence. She made the allegation while confirming the dissolution of their marriage in a viral video on Wednesday. A statement announcing the couple's divorce by Olaiya surfaced online on Monday.
According to Ghana Web, the actor claimed in a controversial statement that Nafisat packed out of their matrimonial home without his knowledge and that all efforts to bring her back proved abortive. However, reacting to the actor's claim in a video on Wednesday, Nafisat noted that she left the actor a few months into their marriage over domestic violence and mistreatment.
Nafisat expressed that she left her marriage because she was in pain and felt mistreated, stating that no one would remain in a home filled with violence. She confirmed the divorce, emphasizing that it has been a long time since they were together. Nafisat shared her perspective, questioning the narrative that she left without reason and highlighting the significant age gap between her and Olaiya, which she expected would bring maturity in handling issues.
The couple's wedding in July 2025 had previously attracted significant attention on social media, as the bride appeared unhappy while the actor danced excitedly. This marriage, ending in less than five months, followed Olaiya's first marriage, which also ended over allegations of violence and infidelity.
