Sunyani: The Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Beatrice Korsah, the Bono Regional Coordinator of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), says the unit remains dedicated to providing justice to all victims of domestic violence, regardless of gender and social status.
According to Ghana News Agency, in an interview with the media in Sunyani, DSP Korsah called on men and husbands who suffered abuse at the hands of their wives and partners to report to the unit for support and justice. She indicated that although most women and children suffered domestic violence, some men also went through abuse in their homes.
She expressed concern that some men who experienced marital abuse often failed to report it, partly due to misconceptions, societal myths, and stigmatization. DSP Korsah emphasized that DOVVSU was there for everyone and advised men and husbands in particular to use their services whenever they experienced physical and emotional violence or any form of maltreatment in their homes.
She mentioned it was unfortunate that some spouses resorted to new media and other traditional media outlets to address their marital problems instead of using DOVVSU and relevant state institutions. DSP Korsah urged spouses to refrain from this practice, stating that DOVVSU had professionals who could assist them with counseling, mediation, and other support to sustain their marriages.
