Bechem: The Reverend Benjamin Appiah, the Brong Ahafo Presbytery Chairperson of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has expressed dissatisfaction with the excessive and unproductive use of social media in the country.
According to Ghana News Agency, Rev. Appiah described the phenomenon as a 'new craze stealing precious time' and noted that the uncontrolled use of new media was tearing families apart and disintegrating family bonds and unity. He expressed concern over the idolization of mobile phones, stating that everyone, including couples, children, students, and workers, now spends more time on their mobile phones and new media.
Rev. Appiah raised these concerns while speaking at a thanksgiving service to conclude the four-day conference of the Brong Ahafo Presbytery Singing Bands Union (BAPSBU) at Bechem in the Tano South Municipality of the Ahafo Region. The conference was themed 'Celebrating our heritage, building on the foundation already laid-our music, our impact'.
Despite highlighting the negative influences of social media, Rev. Appiah acknowledged its positive aspects and urged the youth to focus on the productive and profitable use of mobile phones to transform lives.
