NDC and Foundation to Commemorate Rawlings’ 79th Birthday

Accra: The National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the J.J. Rawlings Foundation will commemorate the 79th birthday of former President Jerry John Rawlings on Monday, June 22, 2026. The commemoration, which will be held on the theme 'From Revolution to Fourth Republic: The Rawlings Legacy,' will feature two major events in Accra.

According to Ghana News Agency, a statement signed by Mr. Godwin Ako Gunn, Deputy National Communication Officer of the NDC, outlined that the first event would involve naming the party headquarters after Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings and unveiling his bust at 0900 hours. President John Dramani Mahama and other leading members of the party are scheduled to address the ceremony.

The statement further detailed that the second event would include a lecture and exhibition at the auditorium of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences near the Centre for Scientific and Industrial Research in Accra. The keynote speaker for the event will be Ghanaian academic and lawyer, Mr. Tsatsu Tsikata.

Additional speakers will include Dr. Akwasi Opong Fosu, former Minister for Local Government and current Board Chairman of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, and Mr. Kofi Totobi Quakyi, former Minister for Information and National Security. Members of the public, party supporters, and cadres have been invited to participate in the commemorative activities to celebrate the birthday and honor the legacy of the NDC's founder.
