Toronto: Black Stars forward Antoine Semenyo was adjudged Most Valuable Player after his performance in Ghana's 1-0 victory over Panama in their opening Group L match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at BMO Field.
According to Ghana News Agency, Semenyo was crucial in the build-up to Caleb Yirenkyi's late goal and posed a threat to the Panama defense with his pace and direct approach. Despite having few touches in the first half, Semenyo was impressive in the second half, combining attacking intent with defensive discipline.
'I'm just happy we got the three points. It's a dream to play at the World Cup and to help the team win the first game means everything,' Semenyo said after receiving his award. He was among Ghana's standout performers in a composed team effort that saw the Black Stars keep a clean sheet and secure all three points.
Semenyo hopes to lead the Black Stars to another victory when they face off against England in the second group match on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, in Boston.
