Accra: Congregations of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) across the country participated in the 'National Red Sunday Campaign' on Sunday, June 14, 2026. Members wore red attire as part of the church's initiative to promote ecological integrity.
According to Ghana News Agency, the campaign gathered participants of all ages in various shades of red to address ecological injustice. Reverend Davis Aboagye-Danquah, Clerk of the General Assembly of the PCG, issued a notice to all presbyteries stating that the campaign's theme was 'Raising our Voices Against Ecological Injustice' (Genesis 2:16). The initiative aims to oppose environmental destruction and reinforce the commitment to protect the earth.
The notice further explained that wearing red served as a silent but powerful advocacy against ecological destruction, particularly illegal mining practices known as Galamsey. The red attire symbolized a 'red alert' to signal the urgency required to tackle climate change and reaffirm the church's dedication to safeguarding God's creation.
In a related event, the Redemption Congregation at Tema Community Nine also observed 'Men's Fellowship Day,' themed 'Celebrating Our Heritage: Building on the Foundation Already Laid. Men, Use Spiritual Disciplines as Building Blocks.' Mr. Elvis Panford, Past Clerk of Session at PCG Redemption, emphasized the importance of a solid spiritual foundation, comparing it to a house that requires a good foundation and proper materials to withstand challenges, especially during Ghana's rainy season.
Mr. Panford encouraged men to construct their spiritual houses by recognizing Christ as the true foundation, as material wealth and fame cannot replace spiritual solidity. He highlighted prayer, studying the Word of God, fasting, self-control, fellowship, service, and integrity as essential spiritual building blocks. He posed the question, 'All men are builders, but what are you building and with what?'
