Accra: The Government, via the Ministry of Finance, has sanctioned the release of Seventy-Six Million, Four Hundred and Sixty-Six Thousand, Nine Hundred and Nineteen Ghana Cedis and Twenty Pesewas (GHS76,466,919.20) to aid the Black Stars, Ghana's Senior National Football Team, in their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign being held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
According to Ghana Web, this financial commitment is split into two primary disbursements aimed at ensuring the team's successful participation in the tournament. The Government has provided Fifty-Eight Million, Nine Hundred and Twenty-Nine Thousand, Five Hundred Ghana Cedis (GHS58,929,500.00), equivalent to US$5,000,000.00, as an advance payment. This funding is designed to facilitate the team's preparations and cover costs related to their group stage participation in the World Cup.
Additionally, Seventeen Million, Five Hundred and Thirty-Seven Thousand, Four Hundred and Nineteen Ghana Cedis and Twenty Pesewas (GHS17,537,419.20), equivalent to US$1,488,000.00, has been allocated to settle outstanding bonuses owed to the team. These payments fulfill a performance-based agreement from the qualifying campaign, where the team was initially paid 50 percent of their bonuses, with the remaining half due upon successful qualification for the tournament.
The Government emphasizes that this timely release of funds is intended to provide the necessary stability and motivation for the technical team and players, allowing them to concentrate on achieving success for the nation. The statement also calls on all Ghanaians to maintain their unwavering support for the Black Stars as they embark on their World Cup journey.
