Calgary: The Chief Executive Officer of Ghana National Gas Limited Company (Ghana Gas), Judith Adjobah Blay, has showcased Ghana's growing opportunities in the natural gas sector at the ongoing Global Energy Show in Calgary, Canada. Speaking at the international energy conference, Judith Adjobah Blay highlighted the company's significant contribution to Ghana's energy security and economic development.
According to Ghana Web, Blay noted that Ghana Gas currently supplies about 84% of the fuel used by thermal power plants, helping the country save an estimated US$1.3 billion annually in fuel costs, with an additional US$60 million in savings generated through LPG supply. She also emphasized Ghana Gas' role in supporting regional energy integration through its partnership with the West African Gas Pipeline, which has strengthened gas transmission across the region and positioned Ghana as a key player in the West African gas market.
Looking to the future, Blay announced several strategic projects aimed at expanding the country's gas infrastructure. These include a second gas processing plant (GPP II) to boost processing capacity and improve supply reliability, a 300-kilometre onshore gas transmission pipeline to extend access to natural gas across the country, and the Pentane Monetisation Project to reduce hydrocarbon flaring and support the company's environmental sustainability goals.
Blay further described Ghana as an attractive destination for long-term energy investments, citing the country's stable investment climate, strong legal framework, and strategic location in West Africa.
