Esiama Market to Transform Ellembelle District into Commercial Hub, Says Minister

Esiama: Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Member of Parliament for Ellembelle and Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, has announced that the ongoing construction of the Esiama market complex is set to become the commercial hub of the Ellembelle District upon completion. The project is currently underway and aims to address several infrastructural and safety concerns in the region.

According to Ghana News Agency, the GHS9 million project is being funded from the statutory royalties of Ghana National Gas Company Limited. The initiative is expected to alleviate congestion among traders, buyers, and commercial drivers along the Elubo-Agona Nkwanta highway. Mr Armah-Kofi Buah emphasized that the relocation of GPRTU drivers, 'pragyia', and 'okada' operators from the main road station is anticipated to reduce traffic congestion, thus minimizing the risk of vehicular accidents and gas tanker explosions.

The market is an essential project for ensuring safety and order, the Minister stated. He added that once the construction is completed, it will enhance commerce and improve the living standards of residents in the area. The project, which is being executed by MacWest Construction Limited, is approximately 80% complete and is scheduled for completion in September 2026.

The new market complex will feature 76 stores, a car park, a security post, sheds, and other facilities. Mr Joseph Armah Agyekum, the District Chief Executive for Ellembelle, mentioned that the ground floor of the market was initially started by SGSG Construction Limited under the previous administration but was re-awarded to MacWest following audit infractions.

Mr Agyekum expressed gratitude towards the MP for his persistent efforts in lobbying for the project's completion. He also assured traders, drivers, and market women that they would be allocated a store or shed at the new complex. In the interim, a temporary station has been established for 'pragyia' and 'okada' riders off the main highway to Nkroful to mitigate congestion and safety hazards until the relocation is finalized.
