Accra: The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that the government is reviewing the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) timetable as part of efforts to reduce pressure on candidates. He made this known during a visit to Aburi Girls' Senior High School on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.
According to Ghana Web, Haruna Iddrisu stated that the current BECE timetable imposes unnecessary stress on candidates and that the revision aims to provide them with more preparation time. "Accordingly, the government is reviewing the BECE examination calendar. So, now the BECE will begin on a Wednesday and end the following Wednesday. This is to ensure adequate time is given to learners across the country to prepare," he said.
He further elaborated that the revised structure is structured to ease the workload on candidates, noting that weekends would offer additional preparation time. "So, while we start with the first paper on Wednesday, we will end the following Wednesday. This gives students the weekend to prepare for the expanded workload," he added.
Haruna Iddrisu also mentioned that the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the revised timetable once it is finalized.
