Reverend Urges Catholics to Reflect on the Impact of Holy Communion

Accra: Reverend Father Isaac Kofi Quayson, Assistant Parish Priest of St. Kizito Catholic Church in Nima, has called on Catholics to let the Holy Eucharist significantly influence their spiritual lives. He drew a parallel between the stimulation of appetite by drinking water and the spiritual preparation required for Holy Communion.

According to Ghana News Agency, Rev. Fr. Quayson made these remarks during his sermon on Sunday in Accra, marking the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, also known as Corpus Christi. This solemnity celebrates the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist, giving the faithful a chance to honor the Blessed Sacrament through Mass, hymns, and processions.

He urged Catholics to consciously nurture their desire for Holy Communion by reflecting on God's goodness and protection, which helps in preventing spiritual weakness. Rev. Fr. Quayson emphasized that acknowledging God's presence in one's life strengthens the relationship with Him and leads to answered prayers.

Further, he advised Christians to dedicate time for Eucharistic adoration by praying and meditating on the Word of God. The priest stressed the importance of frequent confession and avoiding what he termed 'spiritual junk food,' like petty sins, to prepare for receiving the Body and Blood of Christ.

Rev. Fr. Quayson highlighted the necessity of preparing spiritually and mentally for Mass to fully receive God's blessings. He expressed concern over the casual attitude of some congregants during Mass, questioning how one could receive God's blessings with such demeanor. The priest encouraged the faithful to develop their spiritual lives to withstand life's temptations and grow closer to God.
