Krachi east: Mr. Safo Nketia, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Krachi East, has reaffirmed that sustainable national development depends largely on the provision of quality education, particularly at the basic school level. He emphasized that investing in education is the most effective means of building the human capital required for socio-economic transformation and national competitiveness.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Nketia made these remarks during the presentation of school furniture to the Municipal Education Directorate, which is part of efforts to improve teaching and learning conditions. The furniture package includes 1,580 units, comprising 930 hexagonal desks for Kindergarten pupils, 300 mono desks for lower primary schools, and 350 dual desks for upper primary and Junior High School learners.
Mr. Nketia stressed, "Every nation that seeks sustainable development must invest in education. For Krachi East, the Oti Region, and Ghana to achieve their development aspirations, we must create a conducive learning environment for our children. Quality education is not an expenditure but an investment in the future."
He also noted that the assembly's interventions in the education sector align with the government's human capital development agenda, aiming to remove barriers to quality learning. The provision of furniture, teaching and learning materials, and improvements in educational infrastructure are expected to significantly enhance pupil comfort, improve teacher effectiveness, and boost academic performance.
"When learners are provided with the necessary facilities and teachers have the resources they need, we are laying a solid foundation for future leadership, innovation, and productivity," he added.
The MCE called on parents, teachers, traditional authorities, and development partners to work together to protect educational facilities, promote discipline among pupils, and address challenges such as absenteeism and teenage pregnancy, which continue to affect educational outcomes in some communities.
He assured residents that the assembly would continue to collaborate with the central government and development partners to mobilize additional resources for school infrastructure expansion, teacher capacity development, and equitable access to quality education across the municipality.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mr. Philip-Solo Atitsogbui, the Krachi East Municipal Director of Education, expressed gratitude to the assembly for the intervention. He stated that the directorate would ensure the equitable distribution of the furniture to beneficiary schools and put in place effective monitoring mechanisms to guarantee proper use and maintenance of the items.
Mr. Atitsogbui described the support as timely and said it would help address furniture deficits in some schools, thereby creating a more conducive environment for teaching and learning.
